September liquor licenses in Onondaga County: 46 records, 39 businesses, 2 that say they are new

The State Liquor Authority issued 46 liquor license and permit records in Onondaga County between Sept. 2 and Sept. 25, 2026, per the state’s active-license file. Those 46 records belong to 39 businesses at 39 addresses. Twenty-nine of them are dated the way renewals are: the license either starts Oct. 1 or Nov. 1, when a current term ends, or was already in effect in 2025. Only two of the 39 businesses, Goodwood Tavern in Minoa and Dear Dad in Fayetteville, describe themselves as new on their own websites.

Why it matters: a September issue date here is not a grand opening. The same file lists Red Lobster, Chipotle, five veterans posts and a regional airline. Count all 46 as new businesses and you are off by at least three to one.

How 46 records become 39 businesses

Four businesses hold more than one record: Syracuse Stage (S U Theatre Corporation), 4; Dear Dad (Two Eighteen Prime LLC), 3 temporary permits; Sherwood Inn, 2; The Retreat (J Sahantadam Inc.), Liverpool, 2. Thirty-nine of the 46 are licenses; seven are temporary retail permits, which the SLA lists separately.

Why an issue date is not an opening date

The state’s data dictionary defines “Original Issue Date” as the date the license was issued and “Last Issue Date” as the “Renewal Date.” In all 46 records the two are identical, so the file does not say whether a record is new, renewed, or a change of owner. The effective dates say more:

– **26 records** start Oct. 1 or Nov. 1, 2026, for standard two-year or three-year terms. The SLA requires a renewal filing “before the expiration of the current license period.” A license issued Sept. 9 that starts Oct. 1 has the shape of a renewal.

Is Red Lobster opening a new restaurant in Liverpool?

No evidence of one. The Sept. 9 record names Red Lobster Hospitality LLC, doing business as Red Lobster #6323, 3938 State Route 31, Liverpool: a Restaurant-class liquor license effective Oct. 1, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2028. Red Lobster’s website lists it open daily from 11 a.m., and it is the county file’s only Red Lobster. The file does not say whether this is a renewal or a change in corporate licensee; CNY Signal could not confirm either.

What is the Syracuse University restaurant license?

The Sept. 9 record lists Syracuse University, doing business as “Schine Catering,” at 303 University Place: a Restaurant-class liquor license effective Oct. 1, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2028. That is the address SU gives for The Underground, an event space inside the Schine Student Center. SU’s catering policy says “Syracuse University Catering Services has primary responsibility for selling and serving alcohol at events.”
