SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Next Phase of I-81 Project Brings New Detours
Officials announced a new phase of the I-81 viaduct project set to begin next week. This phase will create detours for commuters in downtown Syracuse, particularly along Erie Boulevard and James Street.
According to Syracuse.com, construction is expected to continue into late 2027 as crews work to replace the aging viaduct. The project aims to improve safety and traffic flow, but drivers should expect increased congestion during peak hours.

Residents in Eastwood and North Syracuse should plan for detours and delays as work progresses.
Farmers Markets Open for the Season
As spring settles in, local farmers markets are returning with fresh produce and artisan goods. The CNY Regional Market, on Park Street near the fairgrounds, remains the anchor for local growers and vendors year-round, while smaller neighborhood markets are gearing up for their seasonal openings.

Markets typically operate Saturday mornings, offering a chance to support local farmers and find seasonal produce, baked goods and handmade crafts.
Weekend Events
Several events are on tap this weekend in Central New York. The JMA Wireless Dome will host a concert Saturday night, and local traffic authorities advise attendees to arrive early and consider carpooling to avoid parking challenges around University Hill.
Destiny USA is also running family-friendly activities and promotions this weekend, drawing visitors from across the region.
