SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Spring Brings the Food Scene Back Outdoors

As the weather warms, Syracuse restaurants are opening patios and farmers markets are gearing up for their seasonal runs. It is a good time to get out and eat local.

Farmers Markets Returning

The CNY Regional Market on Park Street operates year-round, but spring brings a new wave of neighborhood markets across the city and suburbs. Seasonal markets typically open in May, offering locally grown produce, baked goods, honey, maple syrup and handmade crafts.

Check local listings for opening dates and hours as markets finalize their spring schedules.

Where to Eat

Syracuse has no shortage of longtime favorites. The North Side remains a destination for Italian, with pizzerias and red-sauce joints that have served generations of families. Armory Square and Hanover Square offer a mix of upscale and casual dining, many with outdoor seating once the weather cooperates.

For something different, Erie Boulevard and the James Street corridor have seen newer restaurants open in recent months, adding variety to the local dining scene.

Food Events This Spring

The Taste of Syracuse, the city’s largest outdoor food festival, is expected to return to Clinton Square this June. The annual event features dozens of local restaurants offering sample-sized portions of their signature dishes, along with live music and entertainment.

Watch for announcements on specific dates and participating restaurants as organizers finalize plans.

Why It Matters

Restaurants and food vendors are a backbone of the local economy. Supporting them — especially the independents and family-owned spots — keeps money circulating in the community and helps preserve the neighborhood character that makes Syracuse distinct.
