Student achievements take center stage
As the school year wraps up, the Syracuse City School District (SCSD) celebrates significant student achievements. This year, over 300 students graduated from various high schools, marking a milestone for many families. Graduation ceremonies at the JMA Wireless Dome showcased the hard work of students from Henninger and Corcoran High Schools.
New summer programs launched
SCSD is introducing new summer programs to enhance student learning and engagement. The district partnered with local organizations to offer workshops focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education at locations like the Central Library and community centers.

These programs aim to keep students academically active during the summer and prepare them for the upcoming school year. Parents can register their children for workshops through the district’s website.
Community involvement in education
Community involvement plays a crucial role in local schools’ success. Recently, several businesses supported SCSD by providing resources and funding for educational initiatives. A local tech company donated $50,000 to support the district’s new coding curriculum, equipping students with essential skills for the future job market.
Upcoming events for families
This summer, families can look forward to events that foster community engagement and support education. The annual Syracuse Summer Festival will feature a special education day on July 15, where families can learn about local educational resources and programs.
Additionally, SCSD will host an open house on August 10 for parents and students to meet teachers, tour schools, and learn about the upcoming curriculum. This event will take place at the district’s central office on Erie Blvd.

Focus on mental health and wellness
Recognizing the importance of mental health, SCSD has implemented wellness programs to support students’ emotional well-being. These include counseling services and workshops on stress management and resilience. Parents are encouraged to participate in these workshops to better support their children.
