For Syracuse-area residents, these stories reflect both the strength of local athletics and the continued demand for prime lakeside real estate. Solvay’s football team, which plays just west of Syracuse and draws students from the town and nearby Geddes, dominated Westhill 49-13 to keep its perfect record. Meanwhile, Bishop Ludden-Grimes/SAS also secured a win to reach 4-0, though their game was a closer contest, Eagle News reports.
What’s happening in Central New York sports and schools
Friday night’s football action saw Solvay’s Bearcats cruise past Westhill, 49-13, in a game that highlighted the team’s depth and experience. Westhill, which had to forfeit a game to Mexico the previous week, was only playing with a full roster for the third time this season, according to Eagle News.
Bishop Ludden-Grimes/SAS, another Class C team, also improved to 4-0, though their path was less smooth. Both teams now sit atop their division as the season nears its midpoint.
Elsewhere in CNY sports, Marcellus girls soccer edged out Jamesville-DeWitt and routed Skaneateles, while West Genesee girls tennis defeated East Syracuse Minoa and Skaneateles edged Westhill 4-3, Eagle News reports. The Westhill and Marcellus girls soccer teams are ranked no. 4 and no. 5 in the first state Class B rankings of the season, with Westhill’s overtime win over Marcellus on September 10 giving them the edge.

Campus news: Le Moyne student pushes for dialogue on Palestine
At Le Moyne College in Syracuse, graduate student Hannah Hussein is working to bring more speakers to campus to share firsthand experiences from Gaza and Palestine, Central Current reports. Hussein, president of the Students for Justice in Palestine Club, hopes to invite Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mosab Abu Toha and Dr. Mohamed El-Far, a Gazan doctor who previously spoke at Le Moyne about his humanitarian work.
The effort follows campus debate after Le Moyne President Linda LeMura sent a campuswide email referencing concerns about the use of the word “genocide” during a guest lecture by Abu Toha in April. Hussein, a Palestinian-American from Syracuse, said she wants the campus community to hear directly from those affected by conflict in Gaza.
