Three Onondaga County primaries on June 23 will be decided by margins of votes counted in the hundreds. CNY Signal pulled every Board of Elections filing, every certified endorsement, and every prior vote total to show readers what is actually at stake in the comptroller race, the Assembly 129 fight, and the County Legislature 8th District rematch.
A three-way Democratic race for state comptroller, a generational challenge to a 28-year Assembly incumbent, and three contested county Legislature seats top the official June 23, 2026 primary candidate list released by the Onondaga County Board of Elections.
A 2,208-ballot turnout approved the district's spending plan for Cicero, Bridgeport, Brewerton and North Syracuse on May 19, even as enrollment keeps sliding and federal pandemic aid runs dry this fall. Board newcomer Carol Goehner won a three-year seat; Joshua Ludden beat Michael Shusda 1,519 to 913 for a one-year term.
A nine-member board adopted the spending plan 5 to 4 in April after weeks of revision. Six candidates ran for three seats Tuesday at Liverpool Middle School, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Liverpool Central School District is asking voters in Salina, Clay and the village to approve a spending plan that grew roughly 10 percent in one year, drains $12.5 million from reserves, and cuts about 80 positions. Polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday at 195 Blackberry Road.
