Local Schools Update: Charity Program Supports Food Insecurity in CNY

Erin’s Angels of CNY invites runners to join its “Run Hunger Out of Town” charity bib program at the 2026 Utica Boilermaker Road Race on Sunday, July 12. Participants can turn their miles into meals for children facing food insecurity, especially in the Syracuse City School District (SCSD), where many students depend on school meals.

The program welcomes runners and wheelchair athletes registered for the 15K, 5K, or wheelchair race. Those who raise at least $500 will receive a reimbursement for their race entry fee after confirming registration. Every $5 raised provides enough food to feed a child for an entire weekend. Proceeds will support Erin’s Angels’ Summer Meals Program, which supplies weekend meal bags to children during the summer months.

Local schools are also gearing up for end-of-year events celebrating student achievements. The SCSD will hold its annual awards ceremony at the JMA Wireless Dome, honoring outstanding students and educators who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities.

Additionally, the SCSD promotes summer enrichment programs that offer students engaging learning activities outside the classroom. These programs will keep students academically active during the summer and include workshops in arts, science, and technology.

As the school year ends, parents are encouraged to participate in these initiatives, supporting their children’s education and the broader community. The SCSD emphasizes that engaged parents can significantly enhance student success.

The return of farmers markets in Central New York also provides families access to fresh produce and local goods, promoting healthy eating habits. Markets will operate throughout the summer, allowing parents to incorporate nutritious options into their children’s diets.
