SYRACUSE, N.Y., Date Night Options Around the City
Syracuse offers more for couples than the standard dinner-and-a-movie routine. From outdoor walks to live performances, here are some local options for a night out, or a weekend afternoon, that go beyond the usual.
Get Outside
The Onondaga Creekwalk stretches along Onondaga Creek through the city, offering a paved path for walking or biking. It is an easy, low-key option for couples who want to spend time together without spending money. Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, about 15 minutes east of the city, has two glacial lakes and miles of trails, good for a daytime date any time of year.
Museums and Galleries
The Everson Museum of Art at 401 Harrison St. has a strong collection of American ceramics and regularly rotates exhibitions. Check their website for current admission policies and hours. The building itself, designed by I.M. Pei, is worth the visit.

Live Performances
The Landmark Theatre on South Salina Street hosts concerts, comedians and touring Broadway shows throughout the year. Syracuse Stage, on the Syracuse University campus, runs a full season of plays. Both venues offer a more memorable evening than a multiplex.
Armory Square
Armory Square, on the west side of downtown, is the city’s main dining and nightlife district. The neighborhood has a mix of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and small galleries in restored 19th-century buildings. It is walkable and well-lit, a solid default for a date night out.
Destiny USA
Destiny USA on the lakefront has entertainment options beyond shopping, including a movie theater, bowling and various attractions. It is not the most romantic setting, but it works for couples who like a little competition with their date nights.
Scenic Drives
For a longer outing, Route 20 east toward Cazenovia or the Finger Lakes offers rolling hills, farmland and small-town charm. Skaneateles, about 25 minutes southwest, is a classic day-trip destination with lakeside dining and shops along Genesee Street.
