CNY Signal checked all 16 state-listed markets against their own websites: ten are confirmed open this week, one is closed until 2027 and five could not be confirmed. Also inside, how SNAP tokens, FreshConnect Checks and FMNP coupons actually work.
New York State lists 16 farmers markets and farm stands in Onondaga County, and as of September 13, 2026, one of them, Reeves Farms in Baldwinsville, says on its own website that its stand is closed until June 2027. Only 4 of the 16 accept SNAP, and only the three CNY Regional Market days hand out the state FreshConnect Checks that double SNAP purchases.

When do they close for the year?
The state’s closing dates run from September 26 (Aasha Laya) to November 1 (Brady Farm Ford Ave and Urban Delights). Only the Regional Market’s Saturday and Sunday run year-round, so by November 2 the list is down to 2 of 16.
How does SNAP actually work at a farmers market?
Markets take SNAP one of two ways under the state’s Wireless EBT program: an individual farmer with a card reader, or a central market terminal. At the terminal you swipe your EBT card, pick an amount, and get wooden tokens (the state calls them scrip) to spend with any vendor selling SNAP-eligible food. The token model is the one that unlocks FreshConnect.
At the CNY Regional Market the token booth is the E-Shed at 2100 Park Street, open Saturdays 7am to 11am year-round and Sundays 7am to 11am May through December. The market’s page says “No change is given.”
Tokens buy what SNAP buys anywhere: produce, meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, bread, seeds and food-producing plants. Not alcohol, tobacco, hot prepared food, vitamins or non-food items.
What are FreshConnect Checks, and how much do they add?
FreshConnect Checks are $2 state coupons handed out at the token booth. The 2026 market rules from the Department of Agriculture and Markets say markets “must issue one $2 FCC for every $2 in SNAP scrip (tokens) exchanged,” capped at 25 checks per cardholder per day, a $50 value. Odd amounts round down: swipe $7, get $6 in checks.
The checks spend like SNAP on any SNAP-eligible food with a vendor willing to take them, cannot be traded back for tokens or cash, and expire December 31 of the year printed on them. Only markets that run a token program can issue them; the rules say farm stands cannot, which is why the other 13 Onondaga County listings accept the checks but do not give them out. Veterans, service members and their immediate families can also get the checks through the state Department of Veterans’ Services, no SNAP required.
Who gets FMNP coupons, and until when?
The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is two federal programs the state runs. Each gives a booklet of five $5 coupons, $25 total, once a year.
– WIC FMNP: pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five enrolled in New York WIC. Coupons come from your WIC office; the state line is (800) 522-5006.
– Senior FMNP: New York residents 60 and older with low income. Coupons are distributed starting July 1, first come first served, through county Offices for the Aging; the state line is (800) 342-9871.
FMNP coupons buy only locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and culinary herbs from an authorized farmer, not baked goods, jams, prepared food or imported produce. Vendors may not give cash change. Coupons circulate from June and must be spent by November 30, so the last Regional Market Sunday to use 2026 coupons is November 29.
All 16 Onondaga County listings are on the state’s FMNP authorized-market list, reissued September 8, 2026. Its own first line: “Make sure the market is open before you go.”
